Commissioned Week 1

Week 1

Connecting With God

Someone pray for God to be with you and guide you through the meeting.

Remember

Take turns reading our values and remembering why we are together:

We are Committed: We are committed to loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and loving others like He loves us.

We are Confidential: We value and trust each other, so we share openly and honestly with each other and what is shared in the group stays in the group.

We are Changing: We are growing to be more like Jesus, obeying His commands and filled with His Spirit.

We are Christ-Centered: In Jesus, we find God’s presence to guide us, His grace to forgive us, and His power to change us.

We are AcCountable: We encourage each other, help each other and expect each other to love and live like Jesus.

We are Connected: We meet every week, pray for each other every day, and share our lives as we obey and follow Jesus together.

We are Capable: By His Holy Spirit, God gives us the love and power we need to obey and follow Jesus.

We are Commissioned: We are all commissioned by Jesus to make disciples, so we are all committed to starting new groups for others who are ready to discover what it means to follow Jesus.

We are Consistent: We consistently follow this guide because it is based on God’s word and it helps equip each member to lead Cgroups and to make disciples.

Share

Take turns answering the following questions:

  • With which unconnected friend did you share what you learned last week?
  • What did you do this week to bring an unconnected friend closer to Jesus?
  • How did it go with your "By God's grace this week I will..." commitment statements?
  • What has been your greatest challenge or temptation recently? How can the group help you?
  • What are you thankful for this week?

Discover

Pray for God to speak through His Word and to guide your discovery time.

Take turns reading the following passage a few times, perhaps in different translations.

John 20:19-23

19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders,Jesus came and stood among them and said,“Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Take turns answering the following questions:

  • How would I retell this passage? (Each person tries to repeat the passage or Bible story in their own words.)
  • What does the passage teach us about God?
  • What does the passage teach us about people?
  • What will I do this week to obey what I have learned? (Each person commits to obeying what they have learned by crafting a statement beginning with "By God's grace I will...")
  • With Whom will you share what you learned this week?
  • What will you do this week to bring an unconnected friend closer to Jesus?

Pray

Pray for each other asking God to help you obey and follow Jesus as you put into practice what you have learned today.
